Add 'Casino' to that list of winners; it's all aces, as they would say in Vegas -- I loved this transfer. The film got a nice restoration for standard-def DVD just last year, and that master serves as the basis for ths film's HD DVD debut. Casino [DVD] [1996] Robert De Niro (Actor), ... Unlike Goodfellas there is no grain in the picture despite the age of the film. No need to review the film as it’s been done many times previously. Kan niet tippen aan Goodfellas, maar komt aardig in de buurt. Voorheen alleen maar een matige DVD conversie gehad, dus deze 4K uitgave is een verademing. Verwacht geen wonderen qua beeld, daar is deze film niet naar gemaakt, maar de HDR scenes van de casino lampjes spatten van je scherm. Universal's Blu-ray of Casino presents the 3-hour epic in a dazzling transfer; even on DVD the rich reds and golds of the casino interiors tended to smear. The fancier HD audio appears to be only in the English DTS encoded tracks -- DD 2.0 tracks are provided for English, French, German, Castilian and Latin American Spanish, Italian and Japanese. In my original review of the HD DVD of 'Casino,' I raved about the transfer's quality. I thought Universal did a splendid job bringing this now-thirteen year-old film to high-def, so I'm pleased that the studio has provided the same source yet again for this Blu-ray, here in a 1080p/VC-1 re-encode.
